TechNess: Friday, 12.04.2024, 18:00

On Friday, April 12th, at 6 pm, the SMW x VeBiS x APV TechNess (formely known as Cocktailstamm) will take place in the HXE.
Come by and enjoy a selection of fancy drinks at the bar with affordable student prices. And if you enjoy electronic music, you might as well just stay and party with us through the night until 2 in the morning!

Beerpongstamm: Wednesday, 27.03.2024, 18:00

On Wednesday the Beerpongstamm will take place. As usually we will start at 18:00 in the Lochness (HXE). Of course, it is a normal Stamm so you don’t have to participate in the tournament to come to the Stamm. There will also be time to play Beerpong even if you’re not registered in the tournament.

Pubquiz-Stamm: Wednesday, 13.03.2024, 18:00

We are finally back with the first Stamm of the semester. As the name implies the main event will be a Pubquiz, for that you can register from 18:00-18:30 as teams of 4 people (you can do bigger/smaller teams if you like but the prices are designed for groups of 4)

If you can’t make it in time ask your teammates to register for you and if all of you can’t make it in time write a mail to kultis@smw.ethz.ch and we’ll find a solution.

SMW on Ice: Friday, 15.12.2023, 16:00

SMW on Ice will take place on the 15th of December, based on the results of the survey. The hot beverages will be available starting at 4 p.m.
Everybody is free to organise their own journey, but we have selected two connections which should suit most of you. On the Höngg, both groups will leave on the bus 69 at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. People from Zentrum can meet us at the Seilbahn Rigiblick stop, where we plan to make the 33 at 2:28 p.m. and 3:28 p.m., respectively. Important reminder: You are responsible for your own bus ticket and skates.

Do you want to refresh your math knowledge from High School and deepen the comprehension with Theory and Exercises? Then the voluntary Mathematics Preparation Course for Materials Scientist (MVK) is the right choice. It only costs CHF 30. The deadline for signing up is the Friday the 8. September 2023.

I (S)AM curious

Hi guys,

We invite you to the event “I (S)AM curious” which takes place in the HCI G3 on the 17.05. at 16:00. Together with the Association of the scientific staff of the D-MATL (SAM) we have organized an event, where staff of the D-MATL present their research. In the form of an elevator pitch you can get an insight into the different projects and in the following aperitif you can ask further question or simply chat with other members of our department. As a sponsor Sensirion contrasts the research topics with a talk about an industrial aspect of materials science and will be present at the aperitif. You’ll find the detailed programme in the attached flyer. We are looking forward to having many join us!

This year, the Beerpong Tournament will be organized together with the VMP. The three best teams will compete in the final on 18.05.2023. At the Beerpong Stamm we will be looking for the three best teams to represent the SMW! Our tournament will be played with the same rules as the final, you can find them here. Excursion to Sika, 14.12.2022

This time we will meet directly at the entrance of Tüffenwies 16, 8048 Zürich. Please be there before 14:00. The excursion is planned to last around 2.5 hours with an (optional) open end apéro provided by Sika. Travel expenses are not covered by the SMW. This event is limited to 30 participants. Ice skating: Friday, 09.12.2022

We invite you all to go ice skating with us on Friday, the 9th of December, at the Eisbahn Dolder. Meet us at 15:00 at ETH Hönggerberg (at the meeting point in front of the HIL) or directly at Eisbahn Dolder around 16:15. The price per person is 6 / 8 CHF, depending on your age. Please do not forget to bring warm clothing, as the Dolder Eisbahn is an open-air ice rink. There will be hot apple punch and «Glühmost». The event is ending at 19.00, but you are free to stay as long as you like. However, keep in mind that the facility closes at 22:30. Sign up until 07.12.2022.

Nïc’s Hut: Thursday, 08.10.2022, 16:00 – 22:00

On the square in front of the HCI, you will find, oh wonder, mulled wine. But also punch, soft drinks and raclette 😉 More info to come. On 08.12. the SMW and the RandomDudes (AMIV Comission) will host the Nick’s Hütte!
Therefore, we need diligent helpers for setting up, behind the bar and cleaning up. Please sign up in the helpersheet (only in the SMW slots).

Soccer Cup & Bergfest: Friday, 20 May 2022⚽️

On the 20th of May we will have our annual SMW Soccer Cup (once again finally, after a two year break).
We will start at 13:00 in front of the Turnerhaus Höngg and play until 17:00, after which the Bergfest starts (a short walk away). More information about the scheduling of the matches and the Bergfest will be released later.

Last Stamm in FS2022: Avantama Battle Night on Wednesday, 18 May 2022

Don’t miss out the last Stamm of this semester on Wednesday, 18.05.2022, from 18:00, in LochNess (HXE). After the first round (similar to pubquiz) the best teams will compete against each other in funny games. For the teams in the final round there will be great prizes to be won. Avantama will provide sausages/vegetarian grill option as well as one drink per person.

Come along to the high wire park in Kloten with GESO and SMW and get high on trees. We will meet on Saturday 30.04. at noon at Kloten train station (more information will follow). The participation fee is only 20.-

Excursion Holcim: Friday, 29 April 2022

We would like to invite you to the SVMT students’ day with an excursion to the cement factory Holcim in Siggenthal. D-MATL is going to pay for travel expenses from Zürich main station to Siggenthal and back. You should bring closed shoes in which you feel comfortable walking. Holcim is going to offer us sandwiches and fruits over lunch. The excursion ends at 15:30.
Be quick to register by sending an e-mail with the subject “Excursion Holcim” as the number of participants is limited to 15. We will have a waiting list for the case that less students want to participate from EPFL.

Rootlinks

Rootlinks is a student organization active at the 5 Zurich universities (ZHAW, PHZH, UZH, ETHZ, ZHdK), which is dedicated to the topic of sustainability. Our mission is to link companies and organizations that want to face a sustainability challenge with an interdisciplinary team of students who, on a voluntary basis, will learn during one semester how to tackle this challenge. 🏂Ski-Weekend in Elm (GL) in FS2022⛷

The long-awaited (yearly) winter event is finally coming on 11.-13.03.2022. The weekend will cost approx. 115.- CHF per person. That includes accommodation, a skiing pass and food provided by the kitchen team (breakfast, lunch bag, dinner; alcoholic beverages to be paid additionally; there might be sponsored mulled wine though). The kitchen team composes of SMW members (big thanks in advance !). Please enrol before the end of HS2021.

Ice skating on Friday, 17.12.2021⛸❄️

Festive mood with much raclette, mulled wine and some snowy days – an ice skating session can’t be missed! On Friday 17 December, we are going to have some mulled wine together at the Dolder ice rink. To verify as students of materials science, please bring your Legi and show it at the entrance. Don’t forget your mask, certificate (for consumation) and warm clothes. Registration

On Wednesday, 24.11.2021, the Raclette-Stamm is starting at 18:00 at HXE. A Covid-certificate is compulsory and registration is not needed. First come, first serve 😉🧀! Some card games are also available.

Hiking with SMW and APV

On Saturday 13 November, SMW and APV are going hiking from Fällanden to the Zurich Zoo together. Meeting point: Zurich main station at 13:00 or at the station Fällanden, Gemeindehaus at 14:00. A Covid-certificate is required in order to participate in this event. Please register until 08.11.2021 at 23:59.

Oktoberfest-Stamm on Wednesday 10 November 2021

Finally! The Oktoberfest-Stamm is taking place in the hall on the ground floor of the HXE, beginning at 18:00. Please respect the house rules so that we’re allowed to hold further events like this. There are 150 persons allowed. Please register here.

Outdoor Rally Saturday, 01.05.2021🧐📝

In course of the afternoon, we’re going to solve mysteries in the region of Käferberg, starting at HXE, ETH Hönggerberg. Please register your teams of 3-5 players until 01.05. The team captain will then receive further information on the rally.
In case of unsuitable weather conditions, the rally will be postponed by one week, meaning 15.05.2021.

Board Game Tournament on Wednesday 24 March 2021🎲🏆

Register now until Sunday 21 March – as teams of two – for our first-ever online board game tournament on Wednesday 24 March 2021 at 18:00 via the SMW Discord Server.

We also offer a crash course for the competition games Brändi Dog, Tichu and Codenames on Wednesday 17 March at 19:00. It’s recommended for all levels, esp. at Tichu, which is going to have a time limit for each move.
